MEET THE ARTIST
My name is Rodney Watson, I'm an artist of many mediums. I sculpt with sand, paint with acrylics, pet portraits with colored pencils, and urban sketches with ink and marker. Art has always been a large part of my life. I have competed in many competitions and received many awards for my artwork. This includes Judges Pick and Peoples Choice for a Sidewalk competition in Kingston, First place for Sand Sculpting in Cobourg, Fourth place for a custom motorcycle build at the 2024 Toronto International Motorcycle Super Show, and Certificate of Merit for a pet portrait competition with the Portrait Society of Canada 2024.
In 2007, I began sand sculpting. From the beginning, I created my sand sculptures for pure enjoyment. Whether in Ontario, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island I had the attention of many as I drew large crowds of spectators. I earned the title of Professional Sand Sculptor through competitions and personal invitations. I have been commissioned by the City of Kingston, Ontario to create a sand sculpture for their Canada Day event. I and the grand opening of their new waterfront park, Gordon Edgar Downie Pier in honor of the late Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip. While visiting Prince Edward Island, I received a special invitation from Parks Canada to create a sand sculpture showpiece for their Parks Day event.
When I am not sand sculpting, I focus on acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings, pet portrait drawings, and urban sketches. My attention to detail is not only depicted in my sand sculpting but in my fine arts as well. Whether it’s landscape, seascape, portraits or whatever subject I'm creating, attention to detail can be seen.
I am a certified acrylic and watercolor painting instructor. I have been commissioned to create art pieces for clients from around the world. My artwork has reached many countries including Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Germany, Taiwan, Scotland, Sweden, and Spain.
